Walking Home by Simon Armitage.

Average score: 7

Simon Armitage is the poet laureate but his 256-mile walk  along the Pennine Way was no ego trip.

He writes in a self-deprecating amusing way about his journey and focuses on his walking companions and the people he meets.

Along the route, he gives poetry readings and people attending give donations which are stored in a sock.

Descriptions of the different sections of the route were detailed enough for me to visualise the fog suddenly enveloping the walkers, and I felt like I was strolling alongside him.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and scored it 9/10 although others were less impressed, with two readers in our group marking it as a 4/10.
